Although most organizations prefer to have managers and their teams create and manage their goals on Mesh, there are a few instances that warrant an upload of goals. These could include:
- Creating leadership goals post-workshop.
- Creating standard goals for similar roles set centrally.
- Onboarding a new organization on Mesh that has already completed goal setting.
Accessing Bulk Upload for Goals
You can upload multiple goals at the same time using the ‘I want to upload new goals’ intent.
Step 1: On the homepage, hover over Company on the left-side navigation panel. You will be led to the Overview page.
Step 2: Within the Portfolio section, click on Goals.
The Goals Manage page will open (’I want to manage goals’), showing a list of goals owned by your team, for a specified timeline.
Step 3: Change intent to “I want to upload new goals”.
You can now see the “Import your goal sheet” screen.
Downloading & Preparing the Sample File
For uploading goals in bulk, there are a few steps to prepare beforehand before actually uploading the file.
Step 1: Download the respective sample file: the quick goal upload format or the extended goal upload format. Make sure the sheet is in .csv format.
- Quick format has the basic details you need to create a goal. All other details can be either left blank or have a system default (as selected by your organization). P.s. - once the goals are on the system you can make changes (Here’s an article on how to edit goals).
- Extended Goal format has all the fields that can be used while creating a goal. You would use it when you want to specifically define optional or system default fields. For example, if by default your goals uploaded are public, but you want to create private goals OR if by default goals created by you are individual goals, but you want to create team goals.
For quick goal upload format:
Click on “Download a sample goal sheet” below the “Choose File” button. This will download the quick sample format. You can use this option to upload goals with minimal details - title, owner, type (objective or key result), parent goal (if applicable), and target value (for most cases, these are all the details required).
You can use this option when you want to quickly upload goals.
For extended goal upload format:
Click on “Download the full goal sheet” at the bottom left corner, below the Guide link. You can use this option to upload more detailed goals with details such as timeline, metrics, collaborators, etc.
Step 2: Map your goals, objectives or key results onto the sample file. Each column has an instruction that will guide you on filling the sample file, for example, mandatory/optional, any predefined values, etc.
Uploading Objectives & Key Results
Step 4: Now that your goal sheet is ready, on the “Import your goal sheet” screen, click on "Choose File" and upload your data.
Step 5: Once you've uploaded your file, the "Upload File" option at the bottom will be enabled. By clicking on it, your upload will be done. You will get a success message on the screen once it is uploaded.
Error Reporting: In case there are some inconsistencies in the upload such as
- missing mandatory field
- incorrect format
- missing parent goal
You will receive an email with a report that will help you identify the error. Please note, if there is an error in the upload, no goals have been created yet. The error message will also inform you as to whether the upload failed partially or fully. In addition to the email report, you can also download the error report from the error message. You can then see the list of errors goal-wise and make corrections accordingly.
Note: Anyone who can create goals on Mesh can bulk upload goals. So if an employee or manager has the access to create goals, they will be able to upload bulk goals too.

Some Highlights
- If the same name goal, in the same time period, and with the same owners are uploaded, they are treated as duplicates. We allow duplicate record uploads.
- Users can upload as many times as they want. If the time period is already created, new uploads are appended. Otherwise, the time period will automatically be created.
