Goal Check-ins on Mesh are a way to update progress on goal (objectives or key results).
Timely check-ins with your team on goals can can be a great way of keeping your managers and collaborators up-to-date on your goals’ status. They eliminate the need for conducting meetings for your manager to know about progress/ status updates on your deliverables.
A check-in can be an update on progress, the latest achieved metric and can be accompanied by details on progress, constraints and opportunities. All check-ins are recorded on Mesh so your manager can easily check the progress of work, whenever they want.
You can check-in a goal on Mesh from the Goals module.
Checking in a goal from the Goals Module
Step 1: On the homepage, hover on Team on the left side navigation panel and select one of your Teams (eg - Direct Team). You would be led to the Overview page.
Step 2: Within the Portfolio section, click on Goals.
The Goals Manage page will open (’I want to manage goals’), showing a list of goals owned by your team, for a specified timeline.
You can also use the Search option to search for a goal.
Step 3: On selecting the goal, the Edit Panel of the goal will open, with the check-in card shown upfront.
Step 4: You can update the latest progress on the goal (on behalf of your team member) by doing either or all of the following:
- Changing the achieved value
- Updating the status
- Changing the progress; or
- Adding a comment.
As a manager you may be adding a check-in for several reasons:
- You are reviewing the goals on your system and are hence updating the latest changes
- You are asynchronously reviewing the progress by your team member and leaving behind notes and/or modifications
Mesh considers any change made to the following parameters as a Check-In:
- Progress of the goal (which in turn changes the Achieved Value of the goal, or vice versa)
The Achieved Value for the goal can be changed by typing it in the Achieved Value field. This will also result in a change in the Progress of the goal.
Similarly, the Progress for the goal can be changed by sliding the Progress Bar, which would automatically reflect in the Achieved Value for the goal. - Status of the goal
Updating the Status of a goal provides clear visibility to your manager as the latter would be reviewing status of multiple goals at once, and thus would like to have a quick overview of every goal. To update the status of your goal, click on the Status button.
A dropdown will appear that contains sections that correspond to In Progress and Closure statuses. Each section will have sub-sections as follows:
In Progress-
- On-Track
- Off-Track
- At-Risk
-
Closure
-
-
- Closed & Archived
- Closed & Not archived
- Closed & Dropped
-
You can use this section to set status to your goal depending on the progress towards the goal.
We recommend you to always supplement the check-in with a comment to add more context. While adding a comment does not count as a check-in, it can be a good way to promote effective communication, encourage reflection and serve as a narrative for tracking progress, offering insights into achievements, challenges, and steps taken.
You can also click on the Praise toggle to foster a sense of accomplishment and encourage individuals to stay committed to their goals.
Step 5: Do make sure to click on the Check-in button before exiting the Edit Panel to ensure that the check-in is recorded.
We understand that at times, individuals may miss checking into their goals on time.
In such cases, Mesh Maven comes to the rescue by nudging you to check-in to goals where a check-in may be overdue.
