At Mesh, we recognise that every business has its own unique aspirations and challenges, requiring a personalised approach to goal setting.
While we have multiple devised templates that may help you to choose a framework and start creating goals quickly, we also enable admins to create a customised goal-setting methodology.
You can either customise an existing framework according to your needs or create a new one from scratch.
Customising an existing framework
We recommend you to customise an existing framework/methodology so that you do not have to undergo the effort of tweaking a lot of things from scratch.
To customise an existing framework,
Step 1: Once you’re logged in on your Mesh account, go to Company. Select Goals under the Portfolio section from the left side navigation bar.
You would be able to see a list of your company’s goals for the ongoing timeline.
Step 2: Select the Settings tab beside the Manage tab on top, below the header.
Step 3: You will now be able to see a list of templates that you can use to select your Goal-setting methodology under the "Goal Setting Methodologies" section.
To edit the specific attributes that define a template, click on the Ellipsis icon > Edit button on the bottom right of the template card.
We recommend you to make a copy of the template that you wish to edit so that you have the initial template for reference.
Step 4: To make a copy of the template and edit the same, click on the Ellipsis icon > Make a copy button on the bottom right of the template card.
Step 5: Write a name and description (optional) for your framework.
Step 6: You can configure the default settings for Display name, Cascading, Visibility, Progress calculation and Access control as per your needs. You can read more about the sections in Step 5 of the next section. We also described these settings in more detail in the article here.
Step 7: Once you have configured the framework, click on the Save button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Your customised framework has been saved! Your company can now set goals according to this framework.
Creating your own goal-setting framework
This section describes the steps required to create a goal setting framework for your company from scratch.
To create your own goal-setting methodology,
Step 1: Once you’re logged in on your Mesh account, go to Company.
Click on the + Add New option to build your own framework.
Step 4: You will see a title for your framework by default. We recommend you change it to better describe your framework.
You can also add a short description that explains the framework to provide more context.
Step 5: The creation process is divided into five sections for easier segregation.
These sections are as follows:
Display Name
This section allows you to customise the names set for the Goals module, objectives and key results. You can rename each entity to one that suits your company’s processes the best, and changes would be auto-reflected across the platform, the Slack app and in all user notifications.
How to Cascade
Set up rules around the cascading of goals in your framework. You can enable or disable the ability to create cascading goals for users in your company, toggle between different objective types (read more about objective types here) and enable or disable your teammates to create goals without a parent.
Default Visibility
Set the default visibility for your objectives and key results.
- Public: The objective or key result is visible to the entire organisation.
- Private: The objective or key result is visible only to the Owner, Collaborator and their respective Managers.
-
How to calculate Progress
Mesh allows you to customize the way you define and calculate progress for your goals.
Access Control
Control the access to key important actions, such as creating goals, viewing and editing goals and interacting with insights on goals in Mesh with this section.
A detailed explanation of the Access control matrix can be found in the article: Configuring access control for Goals
Step 6: Once you have setup the framework, click on the Save button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Your customised framework has been saved! Your company can now set goals according to this framework.
Thus, with Mesh, you can enable your company to setup goals according to the right goal setting methodology for your company.
